Scammers are posing as tech support with your computer or software provider, calling and offering to help with a virus that's been spotted on your computer, warns Doug Magtditch of CW33-TV, Dallas - Fort Worth. The scammer is really aiming to steal personal information or install malware (malicious software) on your computer.

“Everything that you say that you’re questioning or objecting to, they’re going to have a comeback to that. They’re going to know what to say to try to convince you,” said Jeannette Kopko, spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau of Dallas.

"So, you’re thinking you’re getting helped out, but he’s really just making it worse," said Doug Magditch.

“When they call you and make these claims, be very skeptical,” said Kopko. “Contact your actual computer or software company and find out what’s going on.”
