Scammers are calling and claiming consumers have won a lottery, but must send money by wire or prepaid debit card to claim the prize, said Doug Magditch on Nightcap News, CW33-TV, Dallas - Fort Worth. The calls appear to come from Jamaica, and are preying on consumers who may not be thinking clearly after hearing they've won millions.
“So many people enter to win different things, they think, ‘oh, this is something I entered,’ or just, ‘this is my lucky day,’ but they’re not really a winner,” said Jeannette Kopko with the Dallas Better Business Bureau (Dallas BBB).
If you actually won the lottery, you wouldn’t have to pay any money to collect your winnings.
